VCE INFO DAY

10 September 2004

Uncle Sandy stated that language needs to be taught in the early stages at kindergarten to our children to ensure its survival. Ian Luck (Woolum Bellum KODE School) gave an overview of the language program and a profile of the amount of students currently enrolled. Rex Solomon, the teacher at the Woolum Bellum KODE School talked about the different approaches he uses while teaching language. Rex feels that he is at the stage of trialling ways to teach language best to the community.

Heather Bowe (Linguist from Monash University) gave an overview of the Australian Indigenous Languages Book developed by the South Australian Board of Studies. This book is also now available from VACL. Heather also conducted some games aimed at teaching language like 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes' with much hilarity everyone joined in together.
