CERT III, IV AND DIPLOMA IN AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES

01 August 2006

There are currently no accredited language courses offered in Victoria, and the development of such a course will be instrumental in helping the Indigenous community to maintain, retrieve and revive Indigenous languages.
These courses will be open to Indigenous persons interested in learning more about the rich culture and heritage of Australias Indigenous languages. It will offer a much needed pathway for Indigenous language teachers and community language workers and will provide further education for students of the VCE Indigenous Languages subject. The Certificate III and IV courses will be offered in the second half of 2006 with the Diploma course beginning in 2007/8. The courses will be delivered in an interesting and flexible way, with the opportunity to attend weekend schools, a camp in country, on-line learning and video conferencing. This mode of delivery does not require students to be in a classroom all of the time but allows participation in an interactive classroom environment. For information on the course please contact Lynne Solomon-Dent from the Yirruk-Tinnor Gunnai Community Language Program on 0431 056 550 or Doris Paton at the Koorie Unit, Gippsland TAFE on 03 5120 4547.
